The interaction of 1,8- and 1,3-dihydroxynaphthalene with 1-adamantanol in a medium of acetic and phosphoric acids leads to formation of monoadamantyl derivatives. By heating of 1,8-dihydroxynaphthalene to 200 ⁰C in presence of 1-adamantanol and trace of 1-bromoadamantane was obtained triadamantyl substituted product. Under similar conditions 1,3-dihydroxynaphthalene is decomposed.
