The Space of Cultural Values in the Modern Russian Literature
Abstract
The article provides insight into the space of cultural values, which the author defines as the social environment limited to a conditional frame of time and place defined (identified) by this or that combination (set) of values. The methodological position of the article implies the possibility of actualization and de-actualization of values of a certain community under the influence of the literary process. At the same time, the article illustrates the correlation of the axiological message brought by the literary work and the socio-cultural environment, which surrounded the writer and thus took part in his or her development. We assert that values, translated through literary works in the fictional form, both positive and negative, shape the space of cultural values by creating a discourse of the "third sense", a peculiar dialogue of reality, authors and readers. To approbate the concept of the space of cultural values, the authors refer to the works of two outstanding representatives of Russian prose, namely, Victor Pelevin and Vladimir Sorokin. In this article, we resolve the issue of decoding and interpretation of the conceptual content of the novels Love for Three Zuckerbrins by Victor Pelevin and Telluria by Vladimir Sorokin. Furthermore, we identify the actualized values and determine their position in contemporary Russian culture.
